Job Scams
Here are some red flags to watch for when applying to any job, anywhere in the world.
Beware of the following items in a job posting. These are likely indicators of jobs that are not legitimate or scams:
- There is not a company name or the email address does not match the company name
- Someone offers to pay a large amount for almost no work
- Someone offers you a job without ever interacting with you
- Someone wants you to transfer money from one account to another
- Someone offers to send you a check before you do any work
- Someone asks you to give your credit card or bank account numbers or copies of personal documents—but you get nothing in writing
- Someone says you must send payment by wire service or courier
- Someone offers you a large payment or reward in exchange for allowing the use of your bank account; often for depositing checks or transferring money
- If someone sends you an unexpectedly large check
